Camera shots/ Angles- Dracula trailer

Characters

Dracula- Very well dressed, as he is dressed in a suit. This shows his character as he is very important, because he is an inventor. An inventor of power ( light) This shows in the scene when people are also dressed smart and have come to see Alexander Graison ( Dracula) In one scene he is in a top hat and has a cane, this represents his character as important people have canes. instant connection between Dracula and the lady.

Camera shots

Low angle- When woman is being set on fire, as she is maybe a witch. Shows from Dracula’s view of the situation. Also when Dracula is walking down the stairs. Shows importance of character

Eye level angle- when it shows Dracula’s view of his wife being set on fire. It gives a personal connection to the character, in action with Dracula

Master shot- It shows the setting of the ball room of Alexander Graisons house. shows the type of people in the ballroom and why they’re in the ballroom ( Also could be an bird eye view)

Shot reverse shot- Shows when Dracula is talking his friend at there start of the scene.

High angle- When Dracula Wakes- Shows he is vulnerable but powerful at the same time, as the camera wants to get the shot of Dracula being brought back to life ( Also could be as close shot as it shows the facial expression of Dracula when he is brought back to life)

Wide shot- When Dracula is fighting his slayer on the rooftops. It shows the environment, and all of both characters. Theres not much space above characters, but enough to she the surrounding environment

Slow movement when Dracula is Alexander Graison. However when the movement is fast, it shows Dracula, give a intense feeling

Editing- Merlin and Arthur fighting scene

Whilst watching the clip from Merlin, the scene consists of many editing techniques to portray class and status. When Merlin is confronted by Prince Arthur, there is a 180 degree rule technique being taken place, to show that the prince and Merlin are talking to each other. Also to show this, there is an eyeline match, as both characters are talking to each other. You can see that the prince is a higher class than merlin, as the prince has many guards around him. However Merlin doesn't talk to the prince as a servant should do to a prince. This shows the meaning of the eyeline match, as the prince and merlin are on a level of being a human beings ( Equals) but the way in which the Prince talks to Merlin suggests otherwise.( In a demeaning manner)

Moreover, whilst the prince is chasing after Merlin, the camera is slightly shaking. This can relate to the nervous feeling of Merlin. Also the editing of the scene can be used to show the dominance of Prince Arthur whilst using the mace. When the Prince swings his mace to hit Merlin, the shot of him hitting the market table with his mace, almost repeats about 3 times. This shows the force and dominance of the blow to the market table. There is a similar shot when the Prince, smashes his mace through a fruit/ vegetable. This also shows that the vegetable when it is hit explodes, form the power of the swing from the Prince. This can relate to a head, as it would also exploded with the amount of force applied to it.

Moreover the  editing techniques shown toward the end of the scene, are mainly used by Merlin. When merlin uses his power ( magic) when his eyes turn a yellow/ orange colour, there are obvious visual effects being used. However, when Merlin finally gets the Prince down to almost surrender, There is an eyeline match between him and the old man, which you can sense that the old man has a higher status than him, and gives Merlin a look of disappointment.

Diegetic/non diegetic sound of Doctor who scene

Diegetic sound is the sound whose source is visible on the screen or whose source is implied to be present by the action of the film. Moreover Non Diegetic sound is the sound whose source is neither visible on the screen nor has been implied to be present in the action.

In the Doctor Who scene, there is a non-diegetic sound. The sound is the track in the background, which opens the scene in a dramatic sense. The music is quite dramatic, so this reflects the Masters character. Furthermore the dialogue changes from the start to the end. The Master says " Now kneel" This shows his dominance in the scene, and the at the end he shows childish words when scared, because the Doctor has regained his health " Its not fair!" Moreover, the sound of the sonic screwdriver blast is a diegetic sound. This shows that the Master has no last resort but to kill the Doctor. However, the Doctor is almost invincible. This shows the Master as a character, as he is a villain, and wants to hurt the Doctor. This also reflects the stereotypical man figure because he uses his force instead of keeping calm/cool.

Story board for 500 days of summer

In my group ( Skarlet Ben and I) had to plan out what scene we were acting and filming for media. In order to this the group had to plan a story board. Storyboards are graphic organizers in the form of illustrations or images displayed in sequence for the purpose of pre-visualizing amotion picture, animation, motion graphicor interactive media sequence. Here is our story board.

As you can see the story board follows the scene that my group had acted and re-filmed. Furthermore the scene begins with Tom and Summer sitting opposite each other at a table in a diner. The story board also shows this, as we have drawn this onto the story board sheet. This process continues until the end of the scene.

Here is our second piece of our storyboard. This concludes the scene as it is the last starboard sheet. On the storyboard, we have noted in which the angle of the sit was taken at, and how many seconds the shot was, to make sure that we film the scene for the exact time the actual shot was filmed for. As you can see in the top left of the second storyboard, the drawn representation of the shot, has the letters MCO on it. This shows that are group have noted that that shot was a Medium Close-up (MCO) In conclusion, the storyboard ells the group with the timing of the scene, in order to get the shot precise and in the correct order of shot and time.

Preliminary task

My group ( Aine, Ben and I) had the oppertunity to film a clip for our preliminary task. The following task consists of a variety of shots and angles, which are; over the shoulder shot, low angle, high angle, mid shots, medium long shots ,close ups, long shots, shot reverse shot and panning . The scene consists of Ben walking through a corridor, and opening/ going through a door, and having a conversation with me.

As Ben is walking through the corridor, the camera shot is medium long shot, as you get to see Ben's full body, but in a confined space. This also allows the audience to see some of the surrounding environment, to get to grips of the setting. Furthermore, as ben walks up to the door, the sit of the camera is a Over the shoulder shot. This allows the audience to see what Ben is walking up to and shows that Ben will be pushing the door open to get through the door. As ben does this, the camera goes to a close up shot, as the audience will see Ben's hand pushing the door open. This just tells the audience that ben has pushed the door open, to make it more realistic, instead of Ben walking up to the door, and then the next shot is Ben on the other side of the door. As Ben walks through onto the other side of the door, the camera is placed further away, to show the viewer that ben has waled through the door. This is a medium shot as it shows Ben's upper half walking through the door. Then the next scene is ben looking upwards and says " Hey Elliot" This tells the audience that Ben is looking at me. This is a shot reverse shot as the camera then focuses on me. As the camera is focusing on me, it is a low angle shot, to show that i am at a higher gradient than he is ( I'm up the stairs) This then has another shot reverse shot as it pans back to ben. This is at a high angle, as it shows Ben through my eyes, as i am up the stairs, so the camera is higher than Ben as well. Moreover, the next shot, is me coming down the stairs. This is a medium shot as well as it is showing the setting ( the stairs and part of the building). The angle of the shot is a low angle, as it is showing me ( from a higher angle) coming down the stairs. The shot is used to show that i have walked down the stairs whilst I am talking about Mr. Buckmaster's homework. The following shot is a medium shot, of me and Ben side by side, this shows the setting, Ben and I walking towards the exit door of the building. This is shown by the camera panning and following mine and Ben's movement towards the door. It shows both of us in conversation, and walking towards the door.

Own camera take on 500 days of summer

My group ( Skarlet, ben I) had a chance to re-act a scene from 500 days of summer. The scene consisted of a conversation between a male character- Tom ( Ben) and a female character -Summer ( Skarlet) They're having a conversation about their feelings towards each other/ relationship( A break-up) Both characters are comparing themselves with another character. This unfortunately upsets Tom, therefore making the conversation awkward, as Summer is breaking up with him. This in turn makes Tom feel unwanted. The camera shots show this as Tom and Summer look down at their plates ( creating an awkward aura around both characters)

Camera shots

As the scene has lots of conversation, we get many shot reverse shots, to show the conversation. This allows us to see what Ben and Skarlet are looking at, instead of the scene making the audience have to have an assumption that they're both talking to each other. Furthermore at the start of the scene we see both characters sitting opposite each other. This shot is a medium shot, as it shows both characters  but from waist upwards, therefore the viewer knows who the characters are as they can see their upper half, and they get to know the surrounding environment ( In this case, its a diner). Also as the waitress gives Tom and Summer their food, the camera shot goes to a close up. This allows the audience to see what they're eating. Also it shows you that the food is the only thing Tom and Summer can actually talk about. This brings an awkward aura to the scene, as both Summer and Tom cannot think of what to say to each other. Finally at the end when Tom stands it shows a medium shot, as you see the surrounding environment, and Tom standing up to walk away from Summer. This shows that Tom is upset and walks away, but doesn't turn back when Summer says " You're still my best friend" This is because Tom wants to be more than just friends, and he knows that it isn't going to happen.
